Mural for ASID Showhouse

The beautiful historic Moore Mansion (completed in 1903) was the site chosen for the Seattle area 2005 ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Showhouse.
Gifted designer Char Baker contacted me to create a mural to go with the Japanese theme she conceived for the rooms shown in these photos. The project objective was to create drama and elegance by using a rich tone-on-tone color pallet that united it with other existing elements in the space. To heighten the room's beauty I concentrated on creating decorative pattern effects with flora--water lillies, willow branches and bamboo leaves--contrasted with an atmospheric background. To give the space a feeling of openness, the illusion of depth is created with the subtile use of distant mountains, water falls, trees and architectural elements.
The ASID is the the oldest and largest professional organization for interior designers.
"It was such a pleasure working with Michael on this project. He quickly caught the concept of the design and with his incredible talent produced a mural that takes your breath away. Visitors are in awe and quickly feel like they have been transported to another time and place."
