Although impressionistic in technique, I simplified the palette to an almost poster-like manner to recall the classic and nostalgic travel images of the past.

Wall murals are surprisingly durable. Murals can be covered with several coats of a durable and clear acrylic protective that makes them easy to clear. However, this is usually not necessary. Wear shows up more readily on uniform surfaces. That is, unlike conventional uniform walls, most nicks, scratches, and smudges have a way of disappearing into the texture of a mural. You'll likely find that the plain walls of a room will need repainting many times over the years while the mural will continue to look appealing.

The scene is based on a view of the Fremont district of Seattle as seen from east of Lake Union. Canada- and Alaska-bound seaplanes, like the one painted here, take off and land daily from this location.
